Latinos are an important part of the nation’s overall demographic story and future. In this training participants will learn about the broad diversity that exists within and throughout Latinx communities. Participants will learn about some of the shared cultural norms that unite communities and have served as assets within many Latinx cultures. Attendees will also learn about tools, such as the DSM 5’s Cultural Formulation, that can be used to understand each client’s individual situation and worldviewPart 2; 11-12:30
For this portion of the training, participants will engage in the language they provide services in: Spanish. Attendees will explore the assets that bilingual/bicultural practitioners bring to clinical social work and how these skills can be utilized to adapt clinical interventions. -

It’s common for parents to feel lost when a child refuses to listen, makes a rude comment, or when a teen appears to be ignoring you. Helpful parent scripts can help parents feel more confident, competent, and effective during a variety of challenging situations. In this workshop, Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart will discuss her favorite parent scripts specifically curated from hundreds of parent coaching sessions and adjusted based on parent feedback. -

Addressing Youth Suicide & Self-Injury

Description:
Participants will be exposed to a framework of collaborative harm reduction and things to avoid when working towards reduction of self-harm. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of managing risk, developing strategies that are effective for the client and other systems, and build comfort and knowledge around how to support families, including language to use and strategies for support. In this training providers will learn and develop a better understanding of how to navigate self-injury in various levels of the system (residential, family, individually with the client). This training will also explore bias and provider self-talk/reflection when working with clients who engage in self injury. -
