At Wayside Youth & Family Support Network, we are seeing a sharp rise in families struggling to meet their most basic needs. Requests for essentials like food, diapers, and hygiene supplies have increased significantly over the past year.
Requests for basic needs support surged by 48% from 2024 to 2025, as the number of families served grew from 742 to 1,099—and continues to rise in 2026.
At the same time, soaring energy and utility costs are placing added strain on already tight household budgets. For many, paying for heat or electricity means going without groceries, diapers, or other essentials.
Through our Family Resource Centers and community programs, Wayside provides immediate, flexible support—helping families access the essentials they need to stay safe and stable. But as demand grows, so does the urgency.
