The
Wayside Campus:
Moving Closer To Our Vision For The Future
Who We Are:
Wayside is a non-profit, nationally accredited
organization incorporated in 1977 to serve children and families
experiencing various social and behavioral problems. We currently have
approximately 50 teenagers living in our five (5) group homes throughout
MetroWest and Eastern Massachusetts. Some teens live in our homes for a
few weeks, while others may stay more than a year, as we work with them
and their families on improving their respective coping skills and
functioning levels.
We also operate another eight (8) community-based counseling centers in
MetroWest and Eastern Massachusetts providing mental health and
substance abuse services, as well as a significant amount of
home-visiting to families in need of support.
Our Vision for A Campus:
We believe that uniting the teenagers and staff from our
group homes in a single setting would create a stronger and more
integrated program with better sharing of resources and staff.
Our vision for this campus combines aspects of a private school and an
assisted living facility, utilizing many central/shared services but
with the living spaces set up to be very homelike and self-contained.
The following components will be located on a 14 acre site of land
located off Route 9 in Framingham:
- one main building structure of
approximately 60,000 square feet, housing:
- six (6) townhome units with 12
teenagers living in each townhome
- a school/day-programming center
- cafeteria and laundry
- gymnasium
- offices for approximately 40
counseling and administrative staff
- soccer/softball playing fields
- parking for staff and families
- sufficiently buffered areas to
provide privacy for our neighbors and us
Our Plan: We
have secured land at this time and have retained the services of an
architect, DiGiorgio Associates, to design the facility, and Woodard and
Curran to serve the project engineers. The Building Committee has been convened;
we have selected our construction company. A Capital Campaign has begun, with
the goal of raising $2.5 million over 5 years.
