Wayside Statement on Charlottesville

Wayside Statement on Charlottesville

A message from Wayside’s Director of People & Culture, Guimel DeCarvalho:

“Last night hate killed and injured people in Charlottesville. That hate is horrendous and must be condemned, but that hate didn’t start last night. That type of hate starts in conversations at home, in messages we hear from neighbors, teachers, and business leaders. It gets reinforced by policies and practices that go unexamined. It gets protected by silence and by those of us who don’t take on the responsibility to act against it. Wayside is committed to stopping that hate before it starts. Although this shocking and tragic incident did not occur in Massachusetts, the kind of hate that caused it does. We continue to condemn racism and hate in all its forms and remain committed to standing up for those who are targets of it.”

Director of People and Culture
